Eastbourne has long shaken off its sleepy, crinkly image and is fast becoming a smart rival to Brighton! Millions of pounds of development has been invested over the last few years including a new marina, a shopping centre and new housing and consequently Eastbourne in attracting younger, vibrant people. Having said that, you’ll like the Riviera feel of the place with its five miles of promenades, squares and clean beaches. There are handy connections to London, Brighton and of course the continent, with ferries from Newhaven just down the road.
Increasingly cosmopolitan, there are any number of new trendy bars, restaurants and clubs opening all the time to complement the traditional pubs and hotels that made Eastbourne famous in the first place. West End shows preview at the Congress Theatre and Devonshire Park Theatre. There are any number of events held outside during the summer including all kinds of music on the traditional band stand. And not forgetting the RAF air show held annually during August.
Burn some of that indulgence of in one of the many leisure centres and gyms on offer! Eastbourne boasts a sports park, floodlit all weather pitches and the Sovereign Centre and Motcombe swimming pools. Eastbourne is well known for its international tennis played at Devonshire Park prior to Wimbledon.
You’ll find all the major high street names in the pleasant and pedestrianised Arndale Centre and in Terminus Road. There are also any number of more quirky arts and crafts shops.
Road links to the M23/M25 are excellent. London is just over an hour away by rail and Brighton 40 minutes. Newhaven, with its ferries to France, is a 25 minute drive. Fancy a bit of scenery? Eastbourne is a natural gateway to the South Downs and there are some fantastic walks to be had along the vast cliffs including Beachy Head rising 162 metres above the sea.
