Living in East Grinstead

What's It Like To Live in East Grinstead?

East Grinstead is an affluent, thriving and rapidly growing town with a historic centre - its high street features the longest continuous run of 14th century timber-framed buildings in England - with an ever increasing number of modern high street chains and specialist boutiques jostling for space. Yet for all that, Ashdown Forest, with hundreds of sprawling acres is on your doorstep. Both London and the coast are under an hour away as are the major towns of Tunbridge Wells, Crawley and Haywards Heath. No wonder so many people choose to live here and commute. There are many primary schools; playgroups and nurseries; two secondary schools of good reputation and several private schools. Standards of property to rent in East Grinstead are high and there's a wide choice too, including new build apartments in the town centre and larger properties with extensive grounds in its surrounding areas such as Forest Row.

Entertainment

You won't be bored here! There's a thriving social scene with a good selection of pubs, wine bars and restaurants. A couple of nightclubs provide an option and there are cinemas, theatres and a sports complex. Great walking is there for the taking on Ashdown Forest and you can play Pooh Sticks from the actual bridge made famous by A.A. Milne.

Sports

Sports There are an increasing number of excellent facilities, or instance Kings Leisure Centre, a modern and recently extended building, flanked by King George's Playing Fields, run by the Mid-Sussex District Council. The Centre contains a swimming pool and a wide variety of recreational and sports facilities for the residents of the town.

Shopping

East Grinstead has two large supermarkets, branches of most of the best-known multiples and a growing number of other shops including several old-established family businesses, making it a good shopping centre for ordinary needs. There are fortnightly farmers' markets.

Communications

East Grinstead can be easily reached by rail, has regular bus links and is only a short distance from the M23. There is a direct line to London Bridge/Victoria via East Croydon and the journey to London is approx. 50 minutes.
