Living in Walton on Thames

What's it like to live in Walton on Thames?

Walton is now a sought after location to call home with its riverside location next to the Thames, proximity to London and beautiful Surrey countryside surrounding it. The town has changed a lot over the last 50 years with so many people moving into the area, this has meant that it has had to develop a diverse array of property types that mean there is always an interesting mix of apartments of all sizes to large luxury homes. There is also an excellent range of schools such as Ashley C of E, Cardinal Newman and Cleves in which Walton sits within their catchment areas. Also in the town centre is The Heart shopping complex which boasts great shopping with a large number of high street stores. Walton is seen as a great place to live if you are commuting into central London with the train taking around 25 minutes from Walton's mainline station. You are also within a commutable distance to Heathrow Airport.

Shopping

The Heart shopping centre in the middle of town is a contemporary covered mall with over 50 shops & restaurants including Next, Crew, Debenhams and Sainsburys. Even though this is a comprehensive selection of stores there are also more that can be found along the Walton High Street. As well as this there is a monthly farmers market held on the first Saturday of every month in the town centre offering everything from sausages and free range eggs to freshly caught crab and rabbit. If you have still not had enough of shopping after all of this then you have the choice of many of the larger town in the surrounding area. Kingstons Bentall Centre is only a short distance away as well as Woking's Peacocks centre and Guildfords Friary Centre, all offering more high street retailers and departments stores.

Sports and Entertainment

For a small town Walton has got a lot to choose between when it comes down to sports & entertainment. The Excel leisure centre is equipped with a number of different activities such as a gym, swimming pool, squash courts, climbing wall and football courts to name a few. Additionally to this you also have Walton tennis club which offers indoor and outdoor courts as well as professional coaching. The river Thames runs through the heart of the town and is enjoyed by all with many taking in the beautiful surroundings on relaxing walks or stopping for a refreshing break at one of the many pubs that line its bank. If you are looking for more of a hands on experience in the Thames then Walton rowing club has everything you will need. Back on dry land and the town is a hive of activity in the evenings with The Screen cinema complex offering all of the latest blockbusters accompanied with a wide rand of restaurants including Carluccios, Pizza Express & Wagamamas. Only a short 10 minute drive out of the town and you find yourself at the home of one of Britain?s most notorious monarchs, Henry VIII's Hampton Court. Here you can explore the nearly 500 year old palace or venture into their world famous gardens where the largest flower show in the world is held every year.

Transport and Commuting

Waltons train station has excellent links with central London connecting the town directly with Waterloo as well as Woking and Guildford in the other direction. The trains run as often as 4 an hour and take as little as 25 minutes station-to-station. As well as excellent rail links Walton is within close proximity to the A3, M25 and M3 giving you easy access to Britains network of roads and motorways. There is also a regular bus that runs directly to Heathrow airport.
