Bournemouth Winter Gardens development proposals outlined

Plans have been submitted for a £100 million development at Bournemouth's Winter Gardens, thisisdorset.net reports.

The proposals are being put forward for the site of the former concert hall, as well as nearby restaurants and the Keystone House office building.

As part of the plans, 238 apartments have been put forward - including some set aside for affordable housing. Estate and letting agents in the area are expected to be informed shortly on whether the properties will be made available for purchase or rent.

Elsewhere in the development, a cinema, 10,000-square-feet commercial space, public piazza and 180-room hotel have been proposed; as well as enough spaces for 750 cars.

In the proposal - which is currently being considered by Bournemouth and Poole council - developers claimed their building would express "the joyful character of a seaside town", bournemouthecho.co.uk reports.

It went on to explain: "The cinema build is conceived as a central jewel encrusted focus of the site, its solid shell covered with a metallic woven veil. This veil will provide a source of illumination at night, turning the building into a glowing box. A rooftop pavilion takes advantage of the amenity space available and the views."

As yet, however, no date has been set for when the decision will be reached or when building work can begin if the green light is given.
