People in Beckenham have been invited to support a children’s charity by sitting down in a bucket of ice-cold water.
Following on from the Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014, local property specialist Leaders has launched Bum in a Bucket. Participants will submerge their rear end in a bucket of water before donating money to Together for Short Lives.
Those up to the challenge will be asked to donate £3 to the good cause, while people who opt out should donate £10. Anyone who successfully completes the challenge can nominate up to three more people to do the same.
Laura Massey, lettings manager at Leaders in Beckenham, says: “The Ice Bucket Challenge captured people’s imaginations and we hope Bum in a Bucket will prove to be just as popular.
“We are certainly looking forward to seeing exactly how people deal with the shock of sitting in such chilly conditions. Our aim is to encourage people to complete the challenge in the most unusual and eye-catching locations possible, and to take photos to share and nominate others on social media.
“Most importantly, we hope to raise as much money as possible for Together for Short Lives, which is a wonderful cause that supports seriously ill children and their families across the country, including at Demelza Hospice Care for Children in our local area.
“We’ll be starting the ball rolling on 22nd April in our office at 73 High Street, Beckenham when Emma, Diane, Isabel and I will take the plunge. Spectators are welcome!”
Demelza Hospice Care for Children has provided care for babies, children and young people since 1998 and relies on donations in order to carry out its work.
Claire Ellis-Waghorn, head of fundraising at Demelza Hospice Care for Children, says: “On behalf of the children and families who rely on Demelza’s help, a huge thank you to everyone at Leaders for inventing this wonderful challenge and supporting Together for Short Lives and Demelza. Demelza supports the whole family in whatever way they need us, whenever they need us but we can only do that thanks to the generosity of the local community and businesses like Leaders.”
