Cambridge city centre

History, scenery, transport and housing have combined to make Cambridge one of the most popular cities in the UK.

Indeed, a recent poll by the Centre for Cities think tank declared Cambridge the number one place in the country to live and work - and it is not a decision that will trigger many dissenting voices.

Cambridge has long been established as one of the most culturally-rich spots in Britain, with its famous abbey and historic university at its very heart. All of this is set against the idyllic backdrop of the River Cam; so often swamped by punting enthusiasts and eager tourists.

Now, the city is attracting more people than ever before, such as a rapidly rising number of Londoners who have realised just how far their money goes in the Cambridge property market. One only needs to drop by the local rail stations early in the morning to see how many City workers have opted to base themselves in Cambridge, knowing they face only a 50-minute commute to work.

Families are also clamouring to find a property in Cambridge, with many areas providing high-quality homes, good access to the city centre and excellent local schools. One of those spots is the Kite, which boasts a supply of Victorian terraced houses that are large, attractive and practical.

Alternatively, a spate of new-build developments has occurred in recent times, including the prime CB1 project next to the station and Kaleidoscope.

When it comes to putting a little one into the education system, there are few better places to start than institutions such as St Matthew’s Primary and St Alban’s Catholic Primary.

Cambridge is renowned for its flat terrain, making it a haven for cyclists and walkers. Many people are able to take a stroll to work each morning through the city’s many open spaces and relaxed streets.

And when work is done or the kids are otherwise engaged, there is no shortage of cosy pubs and romantic restaurants for residents to enjoy.

All things considered, living in Cambridge really could be the ultimate choice for people in the UK.
