Chichester has been listed as one of the top places in England and Wales in which to bring up a family. The Sussex city, which was listed 14th in the country by the Daily Telegraph, ranked highly for factors including quality of schools, childcare provision, affordability, and crime levels.

Whether on the rental market or for sale, family homes are in ‘high demand’ according to David Vawdrey, branch manager of Chichester Leaders.

He said: “Chichester boasts excellent schools - both private and state - for all ages, as well as a renowned College and University. There is also a range of leisure activities on offer for families, with historic Goodwood on the doorstep. Chichester also has some of the best beaches on the south coast nearby, and also the beautiful South Downs to the north. ”

As a result of Chichester’s many attractions, demand is consistently high for good quality family homes. There is a good choice of properties available for families to rent and to buy – with detached family homes starting around the £375,000 mark for sales and over £1,200pcm for rentals.

David continued: “For investors looking at family homes, Summersdale is a particularly popular area, as are the Downland villages and anywhere situated directly on the coast. Three to four bedroom houses are always sought after, and period and brand new properties carry a premium. Graylingwell Park, an eco-friendly development by Linden Homes, is also a popular choice.

“Families renting in Chichester do so for a number of different reasons. Some have sold a property and are waiting for the right time to buy their next one; some have recently relocated to the area and want to get to know it before buying. The sales market is also booming in the city. The fact that Chichester has been recognised as one of the best places in the UK to bring up a family will also be sound news to buy-to-let investors.”

If you are looking to buy, try to make sure you are in a position to proceed. Identify the areas you are keen to live in, paying particular regard to catchment areas for schools. For renting or letting, choose a regulated agent for advice and help.
