Running for Macmillan

The marketing team of property specialists Leaders is running 1,000 miles over six months to raise money for Macmillan.

The challenge by the team of nine began on 1st July and ends on 31st December.

Although not physically running to each of Leaders’ 85 branches, the distance will cover a virtual route around all Leaders’ branches, from Brighton - where the first Leaders branch was established 30 years ago - west to Gloucestershire, north to Liverpool and Manchester and back south to Sussex via East Anglia, Buckinghamshire and the Home Counties.

This distance is the equivalent of more than 38 marathons and will cover all 18 counties where Leaders has a branch.

Leaders’ marketing manager, Alison Guyton, said: “With Leaders choosing Macmillan as our charity partner this year and pledging to raise £25,000 for them, we wanted to contribute as much as we could as a team to our company fundraising target.

“We are all running about three times per week in our own time – through sunshine, wind, rain and possibly snow - and tracking our distance using Mapmyrun. So far we have completed a distance of 808 miles in 131 hours. That’s more than 5 days non-stop running with another 192 miles to go!”

The team is currently in East Anglia on their virtual route, having just passed Leaders’ Norwich branch and well on their way to Leaders in Cambridge. After that they will make their way down through Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire, and will eventually finish at Leaders’ head office in Worthing, West Sussex.

“This is a tough challenge for each and every one of us but we are determined to reach the 1,000 miles in time, even if it means having to run on Christmas day!” said Alison. “We are keen to raise as much as we can for Macmillan, they provide an invaluable service and many of our staff and clients have had personal experience of their excellent support or know someone who has.

“If anyone would like to sponsor our challenge we will be grateful for any amount, no matter how large or small. Please visit our fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/Marketing1000Miles”
