Manchester estate agents complete Big Fun Run for charity

A team of five estate agents proved they were up to the challenge by taking on Manchester’s Big Fun Run over the weekend in support of a local children’s hospice.

Staff from Leaders in Manchester completed the five-kilometre route through Heaton Park on Sunday (August 23rd) and have so far raised more than £700 for Together for Short Lives, the company’s Charity of the Year in 2015.

Together for Short Lives supports a network of children’s hospices across the country - including Francis House in Manchester - that work to make life easier for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.

Ali Higginbotham, assistant branch manager and nominated charity champion at Leaders in Manchester, says: “We are delighted to be doing our bit for Together for Short Lives this year, and we are already aware of what a great cause it is through seeing the work at Francis House.

“We had several ideas of how we could raise money for the charity, but when we heard of the Big Fun Run we just had to do it. Completing the run on a warm day wasn’t easy, but we are thrilled to have raised so much money for the hospice and are extremely grateful to everybody who donated.”

The team had initially aimed to raise £300 for Francis House, but had more than doubled this total before the starting gun had even sounded.

Peter Forster, head of fundraising at Francis House Children’s Hospice, said: “With the opening of our new teenage and young adult wing in May of last year, we now offer support, friendship and encouragement to over 370 families from all over the north-west.

“We are a growing family and it is only through the generosity of individuals, groups and businesses such as Leaders that we are able to continue to develop our much needed services in the face of such a challenging financial climate.”

Each of Leaders’ 100-plus branches across the country has been partnered with the nearest children’s hospice to allow staff to make a difference to local children who are living with a serious condition.
