Witham winner secures Leaders 1983 prize!

A lady from Witham, Essex has secured national estate agents Leaders’ top prize of £1,983 in its special 35th anniversary competition.

Jo Ludlow was one of hundreds of entrants to the anniversary giveaway, which asked people to guess how many sales and lets the company has completed since it was founded in 1983. Her guess of 218,765 was closest to the correct answer of 221,311.

Allison Thompson, managing director (lettings) at Leaders, says: “Working out exactly how many transactions our branches have overseen in 35 years of trading was always going to be a tough challenge, so we were incredibly impressed by Jo’s guess, which was just 2,546 from being spot on.

“We are delighted to reward her with a cash prize as part of the celebrations for our 35th anniversary, which marks the continuation of our journey from a single branch in Brighton in 1983 to a 125-branch network and more than 1,300 employees today.”

Jo, who was this week presented with her prize by Danielle Pasha, Leaders’ lettings manager in Witham, worked out her guess based on each of the company’s branches selling or letting one property per week over the entire 35-year period.

She later realised her logic was flawed as the majority of branches have not been operating since 1983. However, her guess was still close enough to win the competition.

Jo says: “When I was told I had won I had actually forgotten what the prize was. I assumed it would be a voucher or a bouquet, so I was shocked to find out it was such a large sum of money. I was at work in a quiet office and felt like screaming!

“We have just finished having an extension built and our garden is ruined from having diggers all over it all winter. So the money is absolutely brilliant as I can spend it on getting my garden fixed in time for summer.”
