The world’s first chocolate house is to be built in the UK after planning permission was granted for the landmark development.
Councillors in West Compton, Dorset voted unanimously in favour of the project, which will see a seven-bedroom property constructed with all exterior walls, roofs and facades carefully crafted from high-quality milk chocolate.
The scheme is the brainchild of Maltese billionaire Freddo Farrugia who is known in his home country for a variety of innovative designs, including a national library made entirely of second hand books and an invisible hotel.
He says: “This is a unique opportunity to turn a lifetime dream into a reality and I am extremely grateful to local planning officials for realising the potential of my design. I believe this world-famous home will give everybody in the area a boost and make West Compton the hot topic of conversation among architecture enthusiasts around the globe.
“While there is a rocky road ahead as we still have to overcome a number of important financial obstacles, as well as strict planning regulations that prohibit any building work after eight, I am confident the final result will be a state-of-the-art home that is the envy of the entire galaxy.”
Despite the eye-catching nature of the project, local residents in nearby Quality Street have raised concerns about the scale of the plush property and have called for a kinder version of the plans to be drawn taking their reservations into account.
Katherine Kit at Leaders, who will sell the house once it is built, adds: “We are incredibly excited to be working closely with Freddo and his team of heroes who will be bringing this magnificent home to life.
“Having studied the plans in some detail, we are aware of several features beyond its tasty complexion that are sure to help this property stand out from the crowd. These include a stunning double decker roof terrace, a cosy picnic area and one of the region’s largest displays of red roses – and there is even a whisper of an Olympic-size swimming pool being included.
“This sensational new home will attract plenty of interest so those interested cannot afford to be flakey. Register your interest today for further updates.”
