Career Profiles: Branch Manager
Branch Manager - East Grinstead
Working in the property industry runs in the family for Alex Hodge, branch manager at Leaders in East Grinstead.
Her grandmother worked for an estate agent in Sussex prior to retirement, her father was a sales agent in Brighton and her brother is establishing a strong reputation within the industry as a sales negotiator.
So there was never much doubt that Alex would also forge a career in the fast-paced and unpredictable world of property. She started out as a part-time administrator and home guide in our Horsham branch in 2005 and soon discovered just how much she enjoyed the sector.
Moving up the career ladder
Alex’s enthusiasm and expertise soon led to her being promoted to the role of lettings negotiator, before becoming a senior lettings consultant and then a branch manager in 2014.
“I think I very quickly realised when I started with the company that I loved the fast pace of the industry and the competitive nature of the job. I had a genuine interest in the properties we had for sale and to let across Sussex having grown up in this area, and I embraced the challenge of meeting people and helping them to find their dream home,” Alex explains.
“Even after more than ten years in the business, I still get a buzz out of matching people with their new homes and making the process as smooth as possible for them.”
Life as a branch manager
Now, as a branch manager, Alex has a wider and more varied range of responsibilities. These include managing her team of experts, planning and leading office operations, generating new business, implementing new legislative requirements and ensuring customer service remains of the highest quality.
“I enjoy all aspects of the job and while I have had to take a step back from conducting viewings since I became branch manager, I continue to value properties and meet customers so no two days are the same,” she says.
“The variation within the role is undoubtedly one of the greatest advantages of working in the property market. I am also incredibly lucky to work with a team of committed individuals who aim to achieve the best results in a warm and friendly environment.”
Achieve your career aims in property
Alex would encourage anybody who is thinking of embarking on a career in the property industry to consider roles at Leaders. From young people seeking their first position to existing property professionals looking for a change of scene and others who may wish for a change of career altogether, there are opportunities to suit all requirements.
“We have grown rapidly during my time at the company and now boast more than 110 branches, but the most important thing is that by investing in staff and their training, Leaders is able to retain a great team packed with local knowledge.
“The property market has allowed me to fulfil my ambitions and enjoy a challenging and rewarding career, so if you are looking for similar progression I would highly recommend moving into the industry.”
