Career Profiles: Lettings Manager
Lettings Manager - Beckenham
The potential to progress through the ranks and into a position of seniority is one of the most attractive aspects of working in the property industry - and Laura Massey is a fantastic example of exactly how it can be achieved.
Laura, lettings manager at Leaders in Beckenham, moved straight into the market at the age of 18, taking on the role of trainee sales negotiator with a national agent.
She soon made her mark and was promoted to senior sales negotiator and was responsible for taking on new sales properties and progressing files.
“I loved the buzz of the sales environment,” explains Laura. “But a short time later an opportunity to work in Bromley - an area I know and love - presented itself and I made the move into lettings with a new agent.”
“It was a challenge to start in lettings but I loved the fast pace of that side of the industry. I was able to progress from a trainee lettings negotiator to senior lettings negotiator and then lettings manager.”
Onwards and upwards with Leaders
When the agent was acquired by Leaders in 2011, Laura remained with the branch and soon noticed the advantages of working for the company.
Laura says: “It was a big change going from a small independent business to a large national firm, but it was made so simple and we all very quickly saw the benefits.
“The training provided by Leaders improved my management skills and knowledge of this vast industry.
Taking a career break
In 2013, Laura decided to spend a year travelling the world. Upon her return, she secured a role as a lettings manager in London, but was keen to return to Leaders. This ambition became reality in January 2015 when she joined the team in Beckenham as lettings manager.
“Working for another company for a short time made me appreciate the support, guidance and professionalism that Leaders offers to all its customers,” she explains.
“Since I have been back, the team and I have driven the branch forward to enjoy new levels of success and we have a large group of returning customers. We take all aspects of the job incredibly seriously, whether it is delivering a great service to our sellers, landlords, buyers and tenants or organising charity events to support the company’s fundraising goals.”
Life as a lettings manager
As a lettings manager, Laura is responsible for everything from securing new properties to let to supporting her team, meeting the needs of landlords and tenants and ensuring the branch hits its targets. She particularly enjoys the variation that working in the property industry offers.
“Every day is different and you meet so many different people along the way, viewing all types of properties and having to think on your feet. I love the job and I love our team here in Beckenham. I would recommend the property industry to anybody seeking a new and exciting challenge in their lives.”
