- Where are the top 5 places to bring up a family?
Finding the right home is often the key to giving your children a fun, safe and stimulating childhood, so identifying a fantastic family-friendly village, town or city is a shrewd starting point.
Kevin Shaw, national sales director at property specialist Leaders, says: “There are plenty of things to look for not only in a family home, but in the area in which you choose to bring up your children.
“Great schools, low crime levels, plenty of green and open spaces, access to childcare services, a range of local amenities and a good selection of suitable housing are all likely to be priorities. Working with a local property expert can help you to find your dream home.”
Leaders has revealed its top five places in the UK to bring up a family, all of which have plenty to offer new and future parents.
Chichester is a small city that is packed with culture, charm and heritage. It is home to a number of parks, recreation grounds and a Blue Flag beach at West Wittering is just a few miles away. All of this has created the perfect place for youngsters to play and enjoy their childhood. Property may be expensive, but it is typically of an excellent standard and the local schools - such as Chichester High School for Boys - are among the best in the region.
Sevenoaks is a haven for families; providing a range of quality accommodation in a peaceful and secure setting. Just half an hour from London, less than an hour from the coast and within touching distance of the beautiful English countryside, it offers easy adventures and escapes for parents and their little ones. With a plethora of high-performing schools in the area, it is understandably popular.
Quorn is the village with something for everyone - and that includes families. With its quaint and winding streets making up an idyllic centre, it offers the peace and space that all children thrive on. It is also within 30 minutes of larger towns and cities such as Nottingham, Leicester and Loughborough, making it an ideal home for those who are drawn to jobs in these areas but would prefer to base their family in greener and more relaxing surroundings.
Schools are the number one reason to move your family to Altrincham. The town, part of the sophisticated commuter belt just south of Manchester, is home to a number of high-performing institutions. Many people choose to buy a home in certain streets several years in advance just to ensure their children secure places in their chosen primary school. Altrincham is connected to Manchester via the Metrolink, so commuting to the city is incredibly easy.
Cheltenham ticks all the boxes for parents looking for a quiet and pleasant town in which to bring up their children. The spa town boasts excellent schools, low crime rates and easy access to the Cotswolds. It also has a thriving community spirit and its status as a festival town ensures there is a wide range of events and activities for children to enjoy. Snapping up a home close to the beautiful Pittville Park is a popular option among those with little ones.
