High Wycombe has been named the UK’s number one commuter hotspot ahead of fellow Buckinghamshire towns Amersham and Gerrards Cross.
A new study by Totallymoney.com compared almost 100 towns in terms of commute times, rail fares and house prices for those working in London and looking to set up home away from the capital.
With a journey time of just 30 minutes and average house prices of £346,197, High Wycombe was identified as the standout location for commuters. It came out ahead of Woking and Staines, as well as Amersham and Gerrards Cross which completed the top five.
The £4,180 cost of a rail season ticket from High Wycombe is higher than any other town in the top ten, but a short journey time and an attractive local property market are enough to make it a favourite with City workers.
Arlene Woollard, branch manager at Leaders in High Wycombe, says: “With excellent rail links and large family houses available at a fraction of London prices, it is no surprise High Wycombe has become such a strong commuter hotspot.
“The town’s property market has been booming in recent times, with house prices and rents heading upwards. This has provided homeowners with a golden opportunity to take advantage of high demand and get a great price for their property on either the sales or lettings market.
“I would also advise landlords to consider investing in property in High Wycombe. Tenant demand is pushing rents up and helping investors to achieve an excellent rental income, as well as potentially significant capital growth in the coming years.”
